Why Cookridge roofs need pointing more than tiles
This is interwar and 1930s semi country: concrete interlocking tile, hipped roofs more often than gabled, and generous eaves with the original clay or early plastic guttering still on plenty of them. The tiles themselves are tough and routinely outlive everything holding them down.
Hips are the giveaway. A hipped roof has far more ridge line than a gabled one, all of it bedded in mortar, so there is simply more to fail and more to re-bed. It is a day or two of work and it gets quoted as a re-roof more often than it should.

A firm said my 1930s roof needs stripping. Does it?
Often not. On these houses the concrete tiles usually outlive the mortar holding the ridges, hips and verges, so what looks like a failing roof is a pointing job. Get a second opinion before agreeing to a re-roof, and ask them to show you a tile that has actually failed.
Do you charge for quotes?
No. I come out, look at the roof properly, and tell you what it needs. If it does not need doing, I will say so.
How quickly can you come out?
For a leak, usually the same day or the next morning. I will get it watertight first and sort the proper repair once the weather allows.
Are you insured?
Yes, fully insured for public liability. Ask to see the certificate and I will send it over before I start.
Will I be dealing with you or a salesman?
